CoinMarketCap vs CoinGecko Token Listing in 2026
CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko aggregate cryptoasset markets, but their on-chain products, reviewed coin pages, status language, and workflows are not interchangeable. A DEX page can appear before project identity is reviewed, while a main aggregator page may display limited or tracked data. This comparison uses official materials available on July 25, 2026 and avoids treating visibility as approval. Coinatio publishes the comparison and appears only where its separate profile service is relevant.
Editorial research by Coinatio, checked against the primary documentation cited below. Educational content only.

- CMC DEXScan and GeckoTerminal can expose supported DEX markets automatically without verifying the project.
- CMC explicitly distinguishes unverified, preview or untracked, and tracked listing states.
- A CoinGecko coin page is separate from a GeckoTerminal pool or token page.
- Both aggregators prioritize complete, consistent, independently checkable project and market information.
- Neither platform promises approval merely because published criteria are met or another directory lists the token.
- Aggregator listing is market-data coverage, not centralized exchange admission, an audit, or an endorsement.
CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko listing surfaces
Compare the reviewed aggregator product with the related automatic DEX discovery surface. Visibility in an on-chain product is not the same as a reviewed coin listing.
| Platform | Category | Best for | Primary evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| CMCoinMarketCap | Reviewed aggregator | Listing states, ranks, and broad market coverage | Submitted project data and supported markets |
| DXCMC DEXScan | Automatic DEX index | Early visibility into supported on-chain markets | Unverified records generated from DEX data |
| CGCoinGecko | Reviewed aggregator | Coin profiles, supply, and integrated markets | Project requests, methodology, and exchange data |
| GTGeckoTerminal | Automatic DEX index | Pools, tokens, trades, and on-chain APIs | Indexed networks, DEXes, pools, and transactions |
The short answer: compare products before requirements
For early DEX visibility, compare CoinMarketCap DEXScan with GeckoTerminal. Both derive pages from supported on-chain markets. The prerequisites are a deployed token, a detectable pool on a supported network and DEX, and observable activity. Pointing to that automated record does not make it verification. Bad metadata, duplicate symbols, and counterfeit contracts remain possible.
For a reviewed aggregator profile, compare CoinMarketCap's main cryptoasset pages with CoinGecko coin pages. These products combine project identity with exchange or pool data and may support broader search, API, supply, and market-cap functions. Each company owns its intake, evidence review, methodology, and publication decision. Approval by one is evidence of visibility there, not a prerequisite or guarantee for the other.
How automatic DEX discovery differs
CMC says DEXScan powers automatically created unverified listings from on-chain data. Such pages may omit a project name, website, social links, or logo and have not been manually reviewed by CMC. This status should be reported as an unverified DEX page, not as a verified CMC listing. Search visibility does not change the review scope.
GeckoTerminal indexes pools across supported networks and DEXes and provides on-chain market data. It is a distinct CoinGecko product, although its data is available through CoinGecko API endpoints. Presence there does not establish that CoinGecko accepted a coin listing request. Verify the chain, token, pool, quote asset, and reserves directly.
- Use contract addresses rather than names or tickers in searches.
- Check whether the displayed pool is active and economically meaningful.
- Treat logos, links, and labels as metadata requiring confirmation.
- Preserve the page status and observation date in public claims.
CoinMarketCap's listing-state model
CMC's criteria provide unusually explicit status definitions. An unverified listing is generated automatically from DEX data and has not been reviewed. A manually reviewed verified page indicates best-efforts source authenticity, not project quality. Within verified pages, preview or untracked status can apply when the asset is not yet tracked for market data, while tracked status can include a CMC rank and API availability.
Tracked consideration guidelines include a functional website and explorer, active trading with material volume on at least one CMC-tracked exchange, and a reachable representative. CMC evaluates liquidity, markets, interest, traction, team, product, and longevity. Its official request form is the designated route. Meeting guidelines does not guarantee a state change or fixed schedule.
CoinGecko's reviewed coin requirements
CoinGecko's methodology says a candidate should have a working project-owned website with sufficient information, a working block explorer, and trading on at least one active exchange integrated with CoinGecko. Projects seeking market-cap display should communicate circulating supply clearly, including locked, team, foundation, or vesting allocations. CoinGecko may reject markets available only through self-service venues based on its security concerns.
Projects submit accurate details through CoinGecko's request form and can check status there. CoinGecko says listing is free, donations do not guarantee or accelerate acceptance, and satisfying criteria does not ensure publication. It warns against duplicate requests, financial inducements, and third parties claiming guaranteed access.
Build a submission that works for both
Prepare shared evidence, then answer each form independently. Include the canonical chain and contract, official contact, purpose, explorer, source, security documentation, token controls, supply methodology, allocation and vesting, pair URLs, and supporting announcements. Reconcile decimals, supply, and contract mappings before submission.
Do not reuse promotional prose where a form requests evidence. Explain how a number was calculated and identify its timestamp. If a value is unknown, say so. If multiple contracts represent the asset across chains, document the origin, bridge, issuer, and supply relationship. Evidence quality helps reviewers evaluate a request, but it does not create an approval timeline, ranking entitlement, or obligation to publish.
- Submit one coherent request through each official channel.
- Provide direct market and explorer URLs, not search-result pages.
- Document supply with addresses and reproducible calculations.
- Disclose administrative controls, migrations, and contract changes.
Choose based on data coverage, not prestige
A team does not need to declare one aggregator universally better. Evaluate whether the relevant exchanges and DEXes are integrated, whether the API exposes the required identifiers and market fields, how supply provenance is displayed, and how clearly the page marks incomplete or unverified data. Users researching very new pools may benefit from on-chain products, while portfolio or market-cap integrations may require a reviewed aggregator identifier and tracked data.
Maintain both pages if both accept the asset. Send corrections through each official process and keep project properties synchronized. Do not describe an unverified DEX page as reviewed or imply that an aggregator executes trades. Centralized exchanges conduct separate legal, compliance, security, engineering, and business reviews.
Where Coinatio fits, and where it does not
Coinatio provides profiles for live on-chain token markets and discovery views organized around address identity and current market context. Its review checks whether submitted network, contract, identity, and market information can support a useful profile. That scope is narrower than broad aggregator coverage and does not replace CoinMarketCap, CoinGecko, GeckoTerminal, a block explorer, or an execution venue.
Coinatio listing is not verification, an audit, endorsement, or financial advice. It does not improve a project's chance of CoinMarketCap, CoinGecko, Coinbase, Kraken, or any other platform approving it. Coinatio is the publisher of this comparison. Listing review and advertising are separate, and commercial relationships do not affect organic rankings. Verify every contract and market independently before relying on any directory or aggregator page.
Submit a live market to Coinatio
Projects with a live DEX market can request a Coinatio profile review. This is separate from CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko, is not verification, and provides no advantage in any third-party listing process.
